The history of Fundamental Baptists traces back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the United States. As a response to perceived liberal doctrinal trends in mainstream Protestant churches, fundamentalism arose.
Baptist Fundamentalists placed a strong emphasis on the Bible's authority, especially with regard to its literal interpretation and inerrancy.
